VIDEO: How the Secret to Beating Corona Was Revealed by 19th-Century Rabbi

A major Torah scholar from the 19th century confronted a deadly cholera outbreak with an innovative public welfare strategy that remains applicable during the corona pandemic.

While most Jews today have never experienced Sukkot during a pandemic, a prominent 19th-century rabbi set an example of how Jewish people should behave during such a situation.

Rabbi Akiva Eger was a leading Talmudic scholar and foremost leader of European Jewry in the early 19th century. During cholera outbreaks, he advocated for social distancing practices in the Jewish community, much like the restrictions we are experiencing today.

Watch and listen to Rabbi Ariel Konstantyn describe the efforts Rabbi Eger made and what the Jewish people can learn from him as we celebrate the holiday of Sukkot.
