Hillary Clinton has captured enough Democratic superdelegates to guarantee her the party’s presidential nomination, according to Associated Press (AP). She will be the first woman in US history to win the nomination of a major political party.

On Monday, AP reported that Clinton had reached the threshold of the 2,383 Democratic delegates required to officially clinch the party’s nomination.

“We are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment,” Clinton told supporters at a California rally ahead of the state’s Tuesday primary. Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, and South Dakota will also vote on Tuesday.

Bernie Sanders, Clinton’s rival for the Democratic nomination, was not put off by the news of Clinton’s presumptive nomination. He has pledged to remain in the race until the Democratic convention on June 24, telling reporters in California, “It’s not over until it’s over.”

Sanders’ campaign insists that Clinton’s pledged delegates could change their minds before the convention, although the self-identified socialist has earned far fewer delegates and votes than the former First Lady.

Bibi for President?

Clinton will likely declare victory on Tuesday night after the primary votes are tallied and her win is assured, but there is little chance of an upset at this point.

Jewish Democrats will likely breathe a sigh of relief if Clinton is elected, as Bernie Sanders has made a pointed stand in favor of the Palestinian cause in recent weeks, even pushing to change the Democratic party’s platform on the issue. He has appointed two notorious Israel critics to the platform’s committee, ensuring that even if Clinton, who has painted herself as the pro-Israel Democratic candidate in contrast to Sanders, wins the nomination, the party will still feel the influence of Sanders’ openly anti-Israel rhetoric.

Democrats and leftist movements have seen a significant upswing in criticism of Israel in recent months, as increasingly vitriolic anti-Israel voices on campuses nationwide rise in support of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which is often understood by analysts to be a legitimate front for anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism.

A startling video released several weeks ago showed a satirical filmmaker successfully raising money for the terrorist organization Hamas on the campus of Portland State University. The filmmaker told students he was collecting funds for military operations targeting Israeli schools, malls, and cafes. To his surprise, he was met with nearly universal support and received pledges for hundreds of dollars.
