Yale Revokes Status of Anti-Israel Student Group after Unapproved Protest
The federal Task Force to Combat Antisemitism stated that it was “cautiously encouraged” by Yale’s response and is monitoring the situation.

Yale University withdrew the registered status of an anti-Israel student group on Wednesday and is probing reports of “disturbing antisemitic conduct” at an unapproved protest by the group the prior night.
“Yale condemns antisemitism and will hold those who violate our policies accountable through our disciplinary processes,” the Ivy League school in New Haven, Conn., stated.
The university said that one day after officials of Yale College met the group Yalies4Palestine “to discuss recent policy violations” and warn the group that “further violations would jeopardize the group’s privileges,” the group issued social media calls for others to join the unsanctioned protest. It and an unregistered group took credit for the event publicly, Yale added.
“Because Yalies4Palestine has flagrantly violated the rules to which the Yale College dean’s office holds all registered student organizations, Yale College today notified Yalies4Palestine that the college is withdrawing its status as a registered student organization,” the university said.
The federal Task Force to Combat Antisemitism stated that video footage had surfaced of “an antisemitic encampment and outrageous examples of harassment and bigotry in New Haven, Conn.”
“But with respect to on-campus events, Yale University appears to have enforced its time, place and manner policies, cleared the area, de-registered a student organization involved in the incident and started an investigation into individual discipline for students who crossed the line from speech into unlawful conduct,” it said.
The task force—which involves the U.S. Departments of Education, Justice and Health and Humans Services, and the General Services Administration—added that it is “cautiously encouraged by Yale’s actions and will be keeping an eye on the situation and aftermath.”
“We encourage all universities to independently uphold their anti-discrimination obligations under the law and to appropriately discipline students consistent with their policies,” the task force said.
Yalies4Palestine has already been removed from a public database of Yale student clubs. The revocation means that the group cannot reserve spaces on campus, request university funding, use the Yale name or partake in several other privileges.
During the protest, the university said staff identified students who had been “warned or disciplined” for prior infractions of university policies. On Wednesday, Yale stated that it had informed those students that “immediate” disciplinary action would be taken against them.
Yale stated offenders could face reprimand, probation, suspension and expulsion, and that law enforcement could be involved.
A group of anti-Israel protest groups released a statement claiming that Yale capitulated to the Trump administration to avoid penalties incurred by other universities for failing to curb and take action against Jew-hatred.
The protest was directed at an event organized by Shabtai—a Jewish group with members associated with Yale and based at the university but unaffiliated with the school— which featured Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir.
A video taken at the protest and posted by a Jewish student shows a chain of protesters blocking the student’s path.
Harmeet Dhillon, the assistant U.S. attorney general for civil rights, wrote on social media that the Justice Department “is tracking the concerning activities at Yale and is in touch with affected students.”
