Timeline Since Israel Withdrew From Gaza

On August 15, 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew from the Gaza Strip. Known as the “Disengagement” it was one of the most painful episodes in the country’s 57-year history. It threatened to tear the country in two. Then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s justification was that it would bring peace with the Palestinians closer. In the intervening 13 years, peace has rarely looked so far away.
