After a 13-day self-imposed ban on the Temple Mount was lifted, riots immediately broke out on Thursday at the holy site as thousands of Palestinians attacked Israeli Police in and around the site. Palestinian rioters also hurled stones down on Jews praying at the adjacent Western Wall Plaza.
Israeli security forces responded with crowd control measures which included rubber bullets and tear gas. 11 Palestinians were reported to be injured in the clashes, and 10 Israeli policemen were reported to be injured.
On Friday, the Muslim sabbath, thousand of Muslim worshippers normally arrive at the site. Israeli police limited access to women and men over 50 years of age.
The RedCresent Ambulance Service reported approximately 90 Palestinians injured and five killed as a result of violent confrontations with Israeli police over the last two weeks.
