During a violent riot in Ramallah on Friday, a Palestinian wearing what appeared to be an explosive belt stabbed an IDF Border Policeman in the upper body twice. The IDF soldier was wounded moderately on a Sabbath that saw continued Palestinian violence in response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement acknowledging Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The police are investigating the possibility the assailant was able to approach close proximity to the soldiers because he was either mingling with and posing one of the news reporters. During the confrontation, it was revealed that the assailant was wearing what appeared to be an explosive belt but he was taken away by a Red Crescent Ambulance while wearing the belt.
The assailant, identified as Mohammed Aqal, was shot by the IDF at the scene and later died from his wounds.
