In this verse, God reminds the Children of Israel that He is the one who brought them out from Egyptian oppression and into the Land of Israel. Rabbi Avraham Kook teaches that the Exodus is not simply part of history. It is the beginning of a redemptive process which continues throughout Jewish history. Thus, all future redemptions, including the modern State of Israel’s defeat of its enemies, are all part of the ongoing redemption that will culminate with the coming of the Messiah and the rebuilding of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, may we merit to see that day soon!
