Jerusalem Mayor Reminds Trump of Promise to Move U.S. Embassy to Israeli Capital

Nir Barkat

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, in a congratulatory message to Donald Trump Wednesday morning, reminded the incoming U.S. president of his pledge to move the American embassy to Jerusalem, if elected.

Trump, on a number of occasions, said he would move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, “the eternal capital of the Jewish people,” if he became president.

That message was repeated a couple of weeks ago in a video message to Republican supporters in Jerusalem, not only by Trump, but also by his running mate, Vice-President elect Mike Pence.

“You have been a dedicated friend to the city of Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Israel and the heart and soul of the Jewish people, and for that I thank you. I am confident that you will continue to empower our city by reaffirming its sovereignty and moving the US embassy to Jerusalem,” Barkat said in a social media post.

“Together we will ensure a successful and vibrant future for Jerusalem and the United States,” he concluded.
