JEREMIAH 3:19

Jeremiah describes the Land of Israel as an “eretz khemdah” (אֶרֶץ‭ ‬חֶמְדָּה), translated here as “a pleasant land.” The word ‘khemdah,’ however, also means desire. The commentator Rabbi David Kimchi explains that Jeremiah uses this description since the Land of Israel is desired by all the nations. God’s holy presence is so palpable there, that everyone senses and seeks its holiness.
