Israel’s Ambassador to Myanmar Ronen Gil-Or donated three respirators to the medical center established at the National Football Stadium in the city of Yangon to help battle the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.
Myanmar has recently experienced a sharp spike in the number of cases in the country.
At a ceremony held on Tuesday, Gil-Or said that Israel is honored to make the donation but also feels it is an obligation to contribute to the fight against the coronavirus in Myanmar.
“The embassy will continue to assist hospitals in improving the medical conditions for Myanmar’s citizens during and after the epidemic,” he pledged.
The donation from MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, will assist the hospital and the medical staff in providing respiratory care to patients who have yet to be put on life support.
Since the outbreak of corona in the Asian country, over 54,000 patients have been registered in Myanmar, and about 1,300 have died.
The field of health and medicine is one of MASHAV’s major and important areas of assistance to Myanmar and southeast Asia.
Israel has dispatched various forms of aid to over 15 countries around the world in an effort to assist the global battle against the spread of coronavirus.
The countries included Guatemala, India, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Nepal.
