In our verse, Isaiah uses the Hebrew word “hi-tzeel” to describe God as the ultimate “rescuer” of the Holy City. Those who love God search for ways to emulate Him, and rescuing lives in Jerusalem fulfills His word. Israel’s largest, volunteer rescue organization took its name from the same Hebrew, biblical root, “Hatzalah” – to rescue and save lives in God’s cities across Israel.
