Hostilities resumed on the northern border as the IDF retaliated for an attack on the Western Galilee.
The IDF hit targets in southern Lebanon Sunday evening in response to Hezbollah rocket attacks that fell late in the afternoon in the Western Galilee, near the coastal city of Nahariya.
According to Lebanese media, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack on Israeli territory, Israel’s Channel 2 reported.
There were no injuries, and residents were advised to continue with their daily routines.
The IDF warned, however, that it “holds the Lebanese army fully responsible for actions carried out within its borders and will continue to act against any attempt to strike areas under the sovereignty of the State of Israel or its citizens.”
The Hezbollah attacks came as no surprise; Israel was expecting retaliation for the killing of infamous terrorist Samir Kuntar overnight Saturday. Kuntar, who was located in Syria, was reportedly planning massive terror attacks against Israel, which appears to be the reason he was eliminated.
Security experts say they do not expect a full-blown escalation on the northern front.
