In an apparent revenge attack, the Hezbollah terror organization detonated an explosive charge against IDF forces operating on the northern border. No Israelis were injured. The IDF responded with artillery fire.

IDF soldiers operating on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon came under attack by the Hezbollah terror organization on Monday when a large explosive charge exploded near their vehicles at the Har Dov area.

No Israeli casualties were reported.

The Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar television station reported that Israeli troops were hit by a bomb along the border with south Lebanon in the Wazzani area. The Shiite Iran-backed terror group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Residents along the border say shelling from Israeli tanks and artillery landed in agricultural areas inside Lebanon, with some 40 shells hitting the disputed areas of Ghajar village and Shebaa Farms.

Lebanon’s Al-Maidan news reported that a number of Lebanese citizens were wounded and several buildings were hit by Israeli shelling. It also reported that a “senior IDF official” was the target of the attack.

IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Moti Almoz said two heavy armored vehicles, one of which was a D-9 bulldozer, were targeted by Hezbollah in the attack, describing the explosive that was set off as “relatively large.” He said the IDF is “in control of the incident.”

This incident is part of Hezbollah’s revenge for the death of notorious terrorist Samir Kuntar who was killed in Syria two weeks ago, reportedly in an Israeli airstrike.

Hezbollah has already retaliated through a proxy organization, which fired three rockets on northern Israel immediately after Kuntar’s death.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has since vowed several times to retaliate against Israel and avenge Kuntar’s death.

Israeli forces have since been on high alert, and Israeli leaders warned that any such operations would be met with devastating consequences for Lebanon.
