Joseph describes the naming of his sons born to him in Egypt. As the name of his first son indicates, Joseph is finally comforted after his troubling experience with his brothers. Yet, even after being appointed viceroy to Pharoah, Joseph indicates in the naming of his second son that Egypt is still a land of affliction to him. Don Isaac Abarbanel points out that despite his glorious status, Joseph never forgot where he truly belonged. Though he was comforted over his loss, Joseph still yearned to return to his father’s house in the Land of Israel.
