A rocket fired from Gaza exploded in an early childhood development center on Friday night. There were no injuries but the building was severely damaged. Red Alert sirens sounded just after 11 PM on Friday night and a few minutes later the rocket exploded inside the city, blasting a hole in the roof of the partially fortified building and damaging adjacent buildings.

A second rocket fired at the same time landed in an open field. There have been about 15 rockets fired at Israel since the beginning of the year.

The Israeli Air-Force (IAF) responded by  hitting four targets inside Gaza. There were no reports of injuries in Gaza.

“The IDF will continue to act strongly against any terror force which targets Israel and its citizens, in order to keep the south safe,” the IDF said in a statement. “We hold Hamas responsible. Hamas will be held responsible for all that occur  within its borders.”

“Over the past two days Israeli civilians have witnessed and experienced the devastating effects of incitement-fueled terrorism based on hatred and radical beliefs,” IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a statement following the airstrike.”

“The rocket attack today in Sderot is a horrific reminder of the intentions of terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip to target communities, people, men women and children. In our efforts to ensure stability, we continue to defend against those who put innocent lives in harm’s way.”
