Israel has taken an aggressive approach to stopping the spread of the coronavirus in the Jewish state, protecting its citizens by requiring near-total lockdown and strictly enforcing limitations on movement.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released official comments on Sunday night urging the Israeli people to remain united in the fight against the deadly virus.
“The corona epidemic does not distinguish between the ultra-orthodox and the secular or between Arabs and Jews; neither will we. This war is all of ours,” said the prime minister.
“Together we will [win this war],” he added. “I stand by you.”
Currently, Israel has over 8,000 cases of coronavirus and has suffered 48 deaths.
The coronavirus causes mild to moderate symptoms in most patients, who recover within a few weeks. But it is highly contagious and can be spread by people showing no symptoms. It can cause serious illness and death in some patients, particularly the elderly and those with underlying health issues.
