On Wednesday, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin asking that his office investigate Marriott International, Inc. for possible violations of the USA Patriot Act.
According to numerous reports, the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort provided a facility to Hamas for an event on Monday. Hamas has been designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the U.S. State Department. The provision of this facility may implicate the Sheraton Doha and its parent organization, Marriott International Inc, under executive orders and statues that prohibit the provision of material support to a terrorist organization.
“Mr. Secretary, by providing Hamas with this meeting facility, the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and its parent company — Marriott International, Inc. (a U.S. person) – may well have provided material support to an FTO. We call upon you to immediately investigate both of these entities and whether such support constitutes grounds for designating or prosecuting them under the executive order and statute cited above,” the letter notes.
“As President Trump seeks peace in the Middle East, we must remain vigilant against those who seek to scuttle peace through violence,” the letter goes on to say.
With more than 3.3 million members, Christians United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its message. Each year, CUFI holds hundreds of pro-Israel events in cities around the country. And each July, thousands of pro-Israel Christians gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in the CUFI Washington Summit and make their voices heard in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
