At least two teenagers were killed and up to 17 others were wounded after a mass shooting occurred in a Florida nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning.

The incident took place just after 12:30 EST during a special “teen night” event at the Blu Club in Fort Myers, about two hours northwest of Miami.

When police arrived, they found “several victims suffering from gunshot wounds”.

Israel National News reported that most of the victims are in their teens, some as young as 12-years old, with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening. One of the two fatalities is a 14-year old boy.

Captain Jim Mulligan of the local police department told WINK-TV that three people were detained for questioning and are suspected to have a connection to the shooting.

It is as of yet unclear the motivation for the shooting, whether criminal or terror-related.

One witness told local television sources that following the shooting, the scene was like “a madhouse” while another witness said she heard approximately 30 rounds fired from multiple firearms.

This is the second mass-shooting in a Florida nightclub since Omar Mateen carried out a vicious attack in the Pulse nightclub in Orlando in June. Mateen reportedly swore allegiance to the Islamic State before murdering 49 people, lending support to the suspicion that he had been influenced by the radical group.
