The border between Israel and Gaza is heating up as the IAF hit two Hamas targets on Saturday morning in response to a Friday night rocket attack. Sirens went off  just after midnight in the Eshkol Region as two rockets were fired into Israel, exploding near the border fence. No injuries or damage were reported.

The Israeli response was the fifth IAF airstrike since Wednesday when IDF troops began operating along the border in an effort to uncover tunnels. A tunnel was uncovered on Thursday extending into Israel, the second this month. Last week, Hamas fired at least 16 mortars into Israel.

“Earlier today… a rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip at southern Israel,” an IDF statement read. “In response… aircraft targeted two Hamas terror infrastructures in the southern Gaza Strip.”

“The repeated attacks against the IDF activities to locate and destroy cross-border tunnels will not be tolerated. Hamas’s diabolical plan to infiltrate into Israeli communities must be stopped. The IDF has the obligation and a duty to safeguard the people in southern Israel and the sovereignty of our borders, we will continue to do so,” said IDF spokesman Peter Lerner in a statement.

These four days of cross-border violence mark the most hostility between Israel and Gaza since Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014.
