A young Israeli boy was stabbed by an Arab teen in Ramle. Shortly beforehand, an Arab-Israeli woman was prevented from carrying out a stabbing attack in Jerusalem.

An 11-year-old boy was stabbed Monday afternoon while walking down the street in the central-Israeli city of Ramle, reportedly by an Arab teenager.

The boy said that the assailant approached him, asking if he had a cigarette lighter. When he responded in the negative, the Arab stabbed him repeatedly in the back and fled.

A 17-year-old Arab was arrested.

The victim, moderately wounded and fully conscious, was first treated by Magen David Adom paramedics before being evacuated to Assaf HaRofeh Hospital near Tel Aviv.

“This is a second event in a short period of time and I’m hoping it’s not the beginning of a trend,” Ramla Mayor Yoel Lavi said, referring to an incident earlier in the afternoon in the Old City of Jerusalem, where police arrested a 42-year-old Arab-Israeli woman found to be carrying a large knife, apparently intending to commit a stabbing attack.

It has not been ascertained whether the stabbing in Ramla, a mixed Jewish-Arab city, was a nationalistic terror attack or criminal in nature.

Also in Ramla, two 13-year-old girls stabbed and lightly wounded a security guard on Thursday.
