VIDEO: World’s Biggest Klezmer Music Festival Celebrated in Mystical City of Safed

Klezmer Festival in Safed

The mystical city of Safed in northern Israel celebrates its 30th annual Klezmer Festival.

At approximately 3,000 feet above sea level, Safed (Tzfat) – one of Judaism’s “Four Holy Cities” – is Israel’s highest city physically and one of it’s highest spiritually.

Long known as a center of Jewish mysticism, Safed is also home to the world’s largest Klezmer festival.

Klezmer, which derives its name from the combination of the Hebrew words klay zemer, “instruments of music,” was developed by eastern European Jews and, more recently, assimilates American jazz.
