A U.S.-based expert on Islam told the Al-Jazeera network that designating the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization would protect moderate American Muslims, and every one else.
Dr. Tawfik Hamid, an author, scholar, and Islamic reformer who works at the Virginia-based Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, explained to Al-Jazeera TV in May that Muslims in the U.S. have been able to practice their religion freely, “like Jews and Christians,” because America protects religious freedom for all.
Hamid warned that the Muslim Brotherhood would strip people of basic human rights if given the chance, and therefore designating the group as a terrorist organization would protect Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike.
