Terrorist groups, including ISIS, have used the he coronavirus crisis as a smokescreen to mount a new offensive in the Middle East.
While ISIS was brought to its knees by the U.S. and its allies in the Middle East during the past several years, the terror group has used the coronavirus pandemic, and its drain on resources, to ramp up violent attacks in places like Syria and Iraq.
According to a senior Iraqi intelligence officer quoted by The Associated Press, ISIS used to mount on average one attack per week, but since the virus emerged it is now perpetrating around 20 operations each month.
With ISIS cells operating in the Sinai Peninsula, Israel remains on guard for potential attacks.
