This Syrian scholar blows the lid off a widely held belief about Islam and demands a “critical review” of Arab history to correct falsehoods.

Syrian scholar Firas Al-Sawwah recently explained on Al-Hurra TV that the Al-Aqsa Mosque mentioned in the Quran was not in fact in Jerusalem, and that instead the caliph Abd Al-Malik Ibn Marwan built a holy place in Jerusalem and called it “Al-Aqsa.”

Al-Sawwah also called for an Arab-Muslim “cultural revival” to assess key elements of Islamic theology for their soundness, recalling with mirth the stories he was told in school that he found impossible to swallow being “raised on modern thought.”
