VIDEO: A Song from the Heart at the Western Wall

Song and prayer at the Western Wall

It’s not unusual to find soulful singing and prayer at the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem.

In this video, visitors to the Kotel join in a casual-yet-profound song of yearning created by Naomi Shemer, the “first lady of Israeli song and poetry,” based on Rebbe Nachman, founder of the Breslov hasidic movement.

Stressing individuality, the song – Shirat Ha’asavim, i.e. the Song of the Grasses – stresses individuality with the words, “Know that each and every shepherd has his own tune. Know that each and every grass has its own song. And from the song of the grasses the tune of the shepherd is made.”

The final verse gives tribute to the holiness of the Land of Israel.

Watch this video to see passersby join in a heartfelt song of hope and prayer at this eternal Jewish holy site.
