The UN has shortlisted an anti-Israel activist who wishes the Jewish state would be bombed for the position of investigator of alleged Israeli violations.
The UN Human Rights Council’s vetting committee has shortlisted UK Professor Penny Green for a six-year term as the world body’s investigator of “Israel’s violations,” even though she campaigns for the boycott of what she calls “apartheid Israel” and a “criminal government,” UN Watch revealed Thursday in a new report, titled “Mandate To Discriminate,” which was submitted to the president of the 47-nation UNHRC and to all UN member states.
Green has compared Israel to the Islamic State terror group (ISIS), lamenting that the U.S. and the U.K. have not yet started “bombing Israel for its massacres.”
“By recommending Penny Green to investigate a country that she seeks to bomb and boycott, the U.N. makes a mockery of its own selection criteria of objectivity and impartiality,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, the Swiss watchdog organization that also published specific recommendations for key U.N. stakeholders.
In August 2014, the UNHRC named legal experts to head an international commission of inquiry into human rights violations allegedly committed by Israel during Operation Protective Edge, choosing William Schabas, a Canadian professor of International Law known for his bias against the Jewish state, to head the UN panel. Israel dismissed the inquiry as a “kangaroo court,” saying it will not cooperate with the investigation. Schabas resigned from the position.
