For the second time this month, the UN adopted an Israeli resolution on agricultural technology, despite objections from Arab countries.
On Tuesday, in a majority vote, the UN General Assembly adopted an Israeli resolution on agricultural technology for sustainable development, Arutz Sheva reported. The results were 146 in favor, with 36 abstentions.
“The adoption of this resolution marks the international community’s recognition of Israel’s leadership in the field of international development,” said Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon.
It was the second time this month that the UN adopted an Israeli resolution, notwithstanding objections from Arab countries. On December 4, a similar resolution was passed with 124 in favor and 37 abstentions.
“Israeli innovation beat UN hypocrisy,” Danon stated at the time, explaining that the issue concerns not only agricultural technology, but will also improve the lives and livelihoods of people across the developing world.
“It is quite ironic that the group of nations blocking a consensus on this resolution is the same group who would benefit from it most,” he continued. “The need for agricultural technology in the Middle East is undeniable. Yet, as we are all painfully aware, these governments continuously put politics before people, and pride before progress.”
In another boost, Israel was accepted as a member of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space in late October in a vote of 117-to-1.
Such pro-Israel developments are unusual occurrences at the UN, where condemning Israel is the norm.
