The Times of Israel, one of the largest English news sites in Israel, was hacked on Thursday afternoon by a Turkish Islamic group. The hacker posted his name, “Cyber-Warrior Tim”, and “Akincilar”, the name of a Turkish hacker group and a small town in Turkey, on the hacked site.
“We will still own Palestine if we stay in the world alone,” read a line of text in Turkish posted on the site’s home page.
The hacker also posted a verse from the Koran, verse 2:57 from Sūrat al-Baqarah:
“And We shaded you with clouds and sent down to you manna and quails, [saying], ‘Eat from the good things with which We have provided you.’ And they wronged Us not – but they were [only] wronging themselves.”
The Times of Israel acknowledged the hacking on Twitter and posted that it was working to fix the problem.
The Times of Israel is under hacker attack. We’re working to restore normal service as soon as possible.
