The direct hit seems to be the result of a failure by the Iron Dome anti-missile system. Operations at the power plant were not interrupted.
Smoke was still seen rising from the area on Wednesday morning.
Since Monday, approximately 1,000 rockets targeting civilian centers have been fired into Israel from Gaza, killing five Israelis and wounding hundreds more.
The IDF has responded by striking over 500 military targets in Gaza since operation “Guardians of the Wall” began. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 43 people have been killed including 13 children and three woman. Another 296 others have been wounded. The IDF estimated that about one-third of the rockets fired from Gaza landed inside Gaza, resulting in many casualties.
