In a rare phenomenon known as a supermoon, on Monday night the moon will appear 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than usual. A supermoon, known in astronomy as perigean full moons, is the coincidence of a full moon with the closest approach the moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit.
The last time a supermoon appeared in the sky so close to the earth, it was accompanied by a miraculous event: the creation of the State of Israel. Its once-in-a-lifetime reappearance tonight has many speculating whether it brings with it another prophetic event.
NASA reported that tonight’s supermoon, passing within 221,524 miles from Earth, will be “the closest full moon to date in the 21st century.” The last time a supermoon appeared this close to the earth was 68 years ago, on May 14, 1948, and the next time a supermoon will occur is not until November 25, 2034.
There has been speculation as to the significance of tonight’s celestial event, since Israel’s fate has been sailing stormy waters of late. The recent UNESCO vote, attempting to separate Jews from their eternal dream of Jerusalem, has raised much concern in Israel. International pressure has been put on Israel to accept a disastrous two-state solution as part of a foreign imposed, non-negotiated process. The recent US presidential election has set the entire world in flux.
Charisma News noted the auspicious date of the previous super-supermoon in 1948 and asked if tonight’s sighting, falling six days after the US election, signalled a watershed moment for Israel’s future. It quoted the Bible, noting that celestial events could be interpreted as signs of divine will.
And God said: ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years.’ Genesis 1:14
Charisma concluded that supermoon or not, “Just as in 1948, it appears that something very significant may be about to happen concerning the nation of Israel.” The article speculated that President Obama will use his final days in office to damage Israel in the United Nations, perhaps by refusing to veto a motion to create a Palestinian State.
