Psalm 27 is recited daily during the morning prayers beginning in the Hebrew month of Elul and continuing through to Yom Kippur. The Day of Atonement, we read King David’s eternal words as a reminder to never give up hope in Hashem. While the Jewish people were exiled for thousands of years, their desire to return to the Land never faded. Prime Minister Menachem Begin once said, “The miracle of Return was accompanied by the miracle of Revival. Within a generation there developed within the Jewish people the strength to take up arms, to rise against alien rule, to throw off the yoke of oppression. How long, how endless were the years of exile, of humiliation and destruction. And how short, in comparison, were the years of revival, re-invigoration and armed uprising. History has no parallels in its record!” They waited faithfully for Him, and in our generation, He has brought them home. The Jewish people have reclaimed their rightful position as the strong and courageous rulers of the Land of Israel.
