Pelosi Demands Trump Apologize for Calling Out Tlaib for Saying Holocaust Thoughts Give a “Calming Feeling”

Speaking on an episode of Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast that was released Friday, Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib made the outrageous claim that the Palestinians created a “safe haven for Jews” after the Holocaust.

“There’s kind of a calming feeling I always tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors, Palestinians, who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people’s passports,” Tlaib said in the interview. “I mean, just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time, and I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away, right, and it was forced on them. And so when I think about a one-state, I think about the fact that, why couldn’t we do it in a better way?”

Tlaib has been criticized in the past for antisemitic comments, most recently when she called a New York Times headline “misleading” and “dehumanizing” for stating accurately that hundreds of rockets were fired at Israeli cities from Gaza.
Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, accused Tlaib of trying to edit history with her comments.

President Trump also criticized Talib for her comments.

The Representative for Wyoming Liz Cheney tweeted a call for the Democratic party to react.

Rather than apologize for her egregious remarks that were deeply insulting to Jews, Tlaib lashed out at her critics, saying that her remarks were the “truth.”

Her office released an official statement in which she accused the Republican leadership of being “dangerous” and the Republican party of reaching “a new low.”

She also claimed that any criticism of her comments were generated by racism.

Rather than remonstrate or instruct the rookie congressman, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called for the president to apologize.

The junior United States Senator from Vermont and Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders also rebuked President Trump for his criticism of Tlaib.

Tlaib’s comments make the historically absurd claim that the Jews took the land away from the Palestinians. There has never in history been an independent political entity known as Palestine. This makes her claim that “some people lost their passports” even more absurd. A true depiction of historical events would recognize that there has been an uninterrupted Jewish presence for at least 3,000 years in the area now known as Israel.

Her comments also ignore that the roots of Palestinian nationalism were in the alliance between  Palestinian leader and Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini and the Nazis during World War II.
