The big story of the 2016 presidential campaign has been the dishonest and lopsided coverage by the corporate media. Media bias against Donald J. Trump has been designed to obscure his controversial message that the elites are planning another assault on American sovereignty. Lately, Trump has spelled out his concerns in specific detail, saying his opponents favor “global government.” This is a serious charge. Is it true?
One notable exception to the media bias has been Lou Dobbs of the Fox Business Network. He has openly sided with Trump. Indeed, Dobbs was sounding the alarm about bad trade deals and the prospect of regional and world government when he had a show on CNN.
More than a year ago, in our column, “Trump Threatens ‘North American Union’ Scheme,” we anticipated the issue that would make Trump into Public Enemy Number One of the Washington establishment. We wrote that, by emphasizing the porous nature of the southern border, Trump had jeopardized “a plan that goes way beyond mere amnesty for illegals, and which has been on the drawing board for more than a decade. Simply put, the plan is to submerge the sovereignty of the United States of America and politically integrate the U.S., Canada, and Mexico into a trilateral entity called the North American Union.”
The Washington Post on June 22, 2016 tried to ridicule the idea that any such entity is on the drawing board. Adam Taylor wrote, “While the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which came into force in 1994, ties Canada, Mexico and the United States together in a trilateral trade bloc, there has been no significant attempt to build upon it with a North American Union that could theoretically be compared to the E.U.”
Nevertheless, Taylor writes that “… many Americans view the idea of North American political integration with a deep distrust that can verge on the conspiratorial. Relatively mainstream commentators like Lou Dobbs have suggested that trilateral meetings between the countries were a sign that America’s borders were about to be destroyed, threatening to ‘end the United States as we know it.’”
The Post reporter said such talk came from “fringe websites” and “conspiracy theorists.”
Nine years ago, when Lou Dobbs was on CNN, I appeared on his show to discuss this scheme. I had attended a meeting where such a proposal was discussed in detail. “The holding of the conference was itself evidence that a comprehensive process is underway to merge the economies, and perhaps the social and political systems, of the three countries,” I noted at the time.
I said on the Dobbs show that both political parties “were part of the process” to implement such a scheme. However, the big brain behind the proposal was a Democratic Party operative named Robert Pastor, who was behind Democratic President Jimmy Carter’s successful plan to give away the Panama Canal.
Rather than being ancient history, the secret Hillary Clinton speech about open borders and open trade means that the proposal is still alive. She said, “My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders…”
Trump has rightly noted that “…the central base of world political power is here in America, and it is our corrupt political establishment that is the greatest power behind the efforts at radical globalization and the disenfranchisement of working people.” He added, “Their financial resources are unlimited. Their political resources are unlimited. Their media resources are unlimited. And, most importantly, the depths of their immorality is unlimited.”
There’s a reason why Clinton didn’t want these speeches to be revealed. It wasn’t just because she got paid a lot of money to speak to a bunch of fat cats. It’s because she has a vision of destroying American sovereignty in order to facilitate global trade deals and open America’s borders even more to the rest of the world.
The Post doesn’t want to discuss this because its owner, Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, profits from global trade deals.
As Trump adviser Peter Navarro pointed out in a statement targeting The New York Times and The Washington Post, “The New York Times strings are being pulled by Mexico’s Carlos Slim, a billionaire who benefits from NAFTA and supports Hillary Clinton’s open border policies. Amazon, which controls The Washington Post, profits from the flow of illegally subsidized foreign products through its distribution channels. Lower costs mean higher margins—no matter if bad trade deals lead to massive unemployment in America.”
Trump may be the billionaire presidential candidate in the race. But the billionaires with a lot to gain and a lot to lose through global trade deals are backing his opponent. They believe in her vision of regional and even world government.
The corporate media understand the stakes. That is why they want to destroy Trump. But Lou Dobbs, who joined the Fox Business Network in 2010, understands that Trump is threatening the profits of those who have abandoned the American worker. That is why Dobbs continues to hammer NAFTA and the global special interests behind it. He is a breath of fresh air in a corporate media culture that has mostly become an extension of the Democratic Party.
