Israel reportedly eliminated an ISIS cell responsible for a recent missile attack in the south.
The IDF killed five Islamic State (ISIS) operatives in the Sinai Peninsula responsible for a recent missile attack on the southern city of Eilat, the terror group said on Sunday.
The ISIS-affiliated Amaq news agency reported that an Israel Air Force (IAF) drone fired at the terror cell as it was traveling in a vehicle.
The news agency identified one of the casualties as a Salafist operative from Gaza.
The strike occurred on Saturday near the town of Rafah in the northern Sinai and close to the border with Israel, Amaq said.
Israel has remained silent on the incident, in accordance with its policy in such cases. There have been previous reports of Israeli drone strikes against Islamic terror targets in the Sinai Peninsula.
The attack was reportedly in retaliation for ISIS’ attack on Eilat earlier this month, in which the terrorists launched four missiles towards the popular tourism resort. An Iron Dome anti-missile battery intercepted three of the projectiles, while the fourth exploded in an open space.
No one was injured in the incident, and no damage was caused.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
“A military squad fired a number of Grad rockets at communities of Jewish usurpers in the town of Eilat…in order to teach the Jews and the crusaders a proxy war will not avail them of anything,” the group, known as “Sinai Province,” said in a statement. “The future will be more calamitous with God’s permission.”
