Israel is about to launch its first-ever biochip lab with a $30 million investment.

Biochips can create various biochemical reactions and are revolutionizing medical and environmental technologies.

The research and development lab will be devoted to biochip and smart sensor technology, and its applications will cover various industries, including biotech, energy conservation, medical technology, and environmental protection.

The lab is a collaboration between Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Beckermus Technologies and will combine engineering, artificial intelligence and, and biology.

The nearly $30 million project will be partially funded by $19.6 million from the Israel Innovation Authority.

Biochips will expedite and alter the diagnosis of illnesses, delivery of treatment, evaluation of environmental hazards, and determination of the need for water purification.

Biochips work on a cellular level, influencing and altering biological processes and detecting irregularities.

Dror Bin, CEO of the Israel Innovation Authority, said the lab will become a hub of cutting-edge research and knowledge sharing and has the potential to attract foreign investment in Israel.

Bin said the lab will “solidify Israel’s global standing” as “a global leader in the field.”

IAI and Beckermus Technologies were selected after a rigorous process. IAI focuses on 3D printing, machine learning, and systems integration.

Beckermus Technologies, based in Caesarea, focuses on chip manufacturing and optical components.

Innovation, Science, and Technology Minister Gila Gamliel expressed enthusiasm for the project:

“The new lab marks a groundbreaking chapter where biology, engineering, and artificial intelligence converge to create transformative solutions that can change the world,” she said.

“This is a strategic breakthrough aimed at placing Israel at the heart of the global technological landscape,” the IAI announced in a statement. “The new laboratory will provide unique R&D services across numerous sectors, enabling Israeli researchers and companies to compete internationally, and will also serve as a significant growth engine for Israel’s local biotech industry.”
