At various points, King David refers to God as “my rock.” A rock represents both strength and protection, as rocks can protect travelers from the wind and rain. It is interesting to note that the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel refers to “placing our trust in the Rock of Israel.” The ability to establish an independent Jewish State in the Land of Israel that would be free, democratic and able to absorb Jews from around the world would indeed require God’s help. Thankfully, the Rock of Israel continues to strengthen and protect the State of Israel.
