Shiloh was the first home of the Ark of the Covenant between God and the Jewish people. It stayed in Shiloh for 369 years, from the time that the children of Israel entered the Land of Israel under the leadership of Joshua until Jerusalem became the capital. After losing a battle to the Philistines, the Children of Israel took the Ark of the Covenant from the Tabernacle in Shiloh to the battlefield, hoping that the Ark’s presence would protect them. Ultimately, the Ark of the Covenant was captured by the Philistines. From this point on, the Ark of the Covenant did not return to Shiloh, although Shiloh is eternally remembered as the first resting place of the Ark of the Covenant in the Land of Israel.
