Isaac is warned that despite the famine in the Land of Israel, he is not to escape the tough economic times by going down to Egypt. Though Abraham went down to Egypt when there was a plague in Israel and Jacob likewise descended to Egypt towards the end of his life, God told Isaac not to leave the Land. Due to his unique spiritual status, Isaac remained the only forefather to have never stepped foot outside of the Holy Land his entire life.
