In Genesis 22, Abraham faced the difficult test of bringing his beloved son Isaac to be sacrificed “upon one of the mountains.” Just how did Abraham identify this vague location? Our Sages explain that as Abraham raised his eyes, he saw the Divine Presence hovering above a mountain. This spot was Mt. Moriah, where the Temple Mount rests – the only place in all the world that the Bible refers to simply as “the place.”
