The Hebrew word ‘shalosh’ means three. Three indicates a strong unit or bond, as it says in Ecclesiastes (4:12), “A chain of three cannot be undone.” Perhaps for this reason there are three times a year when every Jew is commanded to make a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem and appear before God. This guarantees that he will re-connect with his Creator at least three times a year, ensuring that the bonds between them remain strong and will not be undone.
