Christians United for Israel (CUFI) recently announced that it has crossed the 5 million member threshold, less than a year after breaking through the 4 million barrier.
The largest pro-Israel organization in the United States is led by Pastor John Hagee, who told Fox News, “CUFI’s growth is a direct result of the widespread support Israel enjoys amongst the tens of millions of Evangelicals in America. With God’s blessing, and the hardwork of our lean but dedicated staff, we have been able to reach one million new members just in the past 10 months.”
In a message to CUFI supporters, Hagee, the pastor of Cornerstone Church, a megachurch in San Antonio, explained that Christians United for Israel had been blessed by God, but that “with great blessings comes great responsibility.” He added, “We must continue to be a loud and unequivocal voice in support of the Jewish state, and we must ensure our voice is heard in every church, on every college campus and in the hallowed halls of Congress, each and every day.”
Hagee maintained that there has never been a time in history when the relationship between Jews and Christians had been stronger. He said the two religions shared the same God and the same values; “If a line has to be drawn, let it be drawn around Christians and Jews together.”
The pastor attended a White House event with President Trump, whom he called a “true friend of Israel” – to celebrate the last night of Hanukkah. He remarked that the lesson of festival was to bring light to the darkness, exclaiming that Israel was a light unto the nations.
He emphasized that while the organization was focused on trying to combat the combined threats of Hezbollah, Hamas and other terrorist organizations, “the biggest challenge we face here in America is the ignorance that enables anti-Semitism to hide in plain sight.”
