The reign of King Solomon was the glory days of the kingdom of Israel. Solomon created a kingdom of peace, prosperity, wisdom and righteousness. One of his goals in building the Temple was that the non-Jews of the world also come to recognize the greatness and oneness of God, as he wrote “that all the peoples of the earth may know Thy name, and fear Thee, as doth Thy people Israel” (6:33). Not only was his reputation renowned and its impact vast, he succeeded in his mission of spreading recognition of God as evidenced by the visit of the queen of Sheba. She was so impressed with Solomon and his kingdom, yet her reaction to her visit was “Blessed be the LORD thy God, who delighted in thee, to set thee on His throne, to be king for the LORD thy God” (verse 8). The nation of Israel continues to be charged with the same mission of spreading God’s name and His greatness throughout the world.
