‘All Injustices are Connected,’ UN Adviser Says of Gaza and LA Fires
Francesca Albanese, the U.N. special rapporteur for Palestinians, wrote the post in response to an antisemitic publication.

Code Pink, which regularly accuses the Jewish state of “genocide,” was denounced widely for comparing California wildfires and Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza. Francesca Albanese, a U.N. adviser who has a long history of antisemitic remarks, appeared to say the same thing over the weekend.
In response to a post from Mondoweiss, which stated that “the fires burning in Palestine and Los Angeles today are symptoms of the same disease: a system that values conquest over conservation, profit over people and expansion over existence,” Albanese, the U.N. special rapporteur for Palestinian rights, wrote that “on our small planet, all injustices are connected.”
CAMERA calls Mondoweiss a “notoriously antisemitic website,” and Anti-Defamation League says that it is a “vociferously anti-Israel news website.” HonestReporting writes that it has an “extreme ideological bent and biased reporting,” and a Washington Post article dubs it “basically one-stop shopping for anti-Israel news.”
“Articles and social media posts published by Mondoweiss have expressed support for terrorists, spread antisemitism and denied Jewish history and peoplehood,” per Canary Mission. “Mondoweiss has also spread an anti-Israel conspiracy theory as well as hatred of Israel and Zionism.”
The Mondoweiss article to which Albanese responded claims that “each bomb that falls on Gaza sends ripples through our collective future, its impact felt in rising seas, warming temperatures and yes, in the fires that now threaten California’s hills.”
California wildfires, which aren’t uncommon, have broken out in years prior to the current war between Israel and Hamas.
The article Albanese cited also does not address the environmental impact of the Hamas terror organization converting Gazan water pipes into material for rockets, building of a massive underground tunnel system or the network of vessels Iran uses to deliver weapons to its proxies, including Hamas and Hezbollah.
Mondoweiss claims there is an Israeli policy of uprooting 2.5 million trees belonging to Palestinians and replacing them with “imported European vegetation, perhaps reflecting their own European roots.”
Israel has a well-known culture of tree-planting, with around 8.5% of the country covered in trees. The Mediterranean Cypress and the Doum, which is an Eastern African date tree, are among the most common.
Mondoweiss also states that California sent $610 million to Israel, which it connects to budget cuts of fire departments in the U.S. state.
City taxes support fire department budgets, and foreign aid, which the federal government allocates, do not impact Los Angeles budgets for firefighting.
“Hatred doesn’t require a cause, only a chance to manifest,” wrote Waleed Gadban, a political counselor at Israel’s U.N. mission in Geneva. “That’s the whole objective of her existence, Francesca Albanese.”
“In the modern incarnation of the Der Stürmer slogan ‘The Jews are our misfortune,’ the U.N.’s Francesca Albanese is actually blaming Israel for the Los Angeles fires. All symptoms of ‘the same disease,’” wrote Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch. “We call on the U.S., France, Germany and Britain to take action to expel this antisemite.”
“This is an actual U.N. employee. Her obsession with the world’s only Jewish state has actually led her to connect it to the Los Angeles fires,” stated Campaign Against Antisemitism. “ Once again, we call for Ms Albanese’s dismissal.”
