Facebook appears to demonstrate a clear pro-Palestinian bias when it comes to online incitement and a number of Israeli experiments proved this. Numerous Israelis have been murdered by Palestinian terrorists thanks to online incitement spread through Facebook. Insist that Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook take action!
Israel’s Minister of Internal Security Gilad Erdan recently slammed Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg for what Erdan said was their partial responsibility for the wave of Palestinian terror attacks which is fanned by incitement posted on Facebook and other social media outlets.
Erdan said, “part of the blood of the murdered is on Facebook’s hands,” and demanded that the social media netowrk take action to combat the phenomenon. “Facebook has become a monster,” the Israeli minister charged. “The discourse of the younger [Palestinian] generation on the web, all the incitement and lies, it all occurs on this platform.”
Facebook, in a statement issued in Hebrew, rejected Erdan’s charges and asserted that it cooperated with Israeli authorities and worked to combat incitement.
But several publicized attempts by organizations to have Facebook remove harmful Palestinian content have failed, while several demonstrations have shown that Facebook is biased when it comes to removing anti-Israel incitement.
In June, Facebook was forced to restore a posting it had removed from a pro-Israel page, after a social-media experiment revealed that an identical pro-Palestinian posting was not deemed to be in violation of Facebook’s “community standards.”
In December 2015, the Shurat HaDin lawfare group set up “The Big Facebook Experiment,” which simultaneously launched two Facebook pages — “Stop Palestinians” and “Stop Israelis” — with nearly identical content that incited violence and hatred against the other.
Shurat HaDin reported both pages and received almost immediate replies. Facebook removed the ‘Stop Palestinians’ page that incited against Palestinians, stating that the page was removed since it “violated our community standards.” On the other hand, the “Stop Israelis” page that incited against Israelis, was not removed. Facebook stated that the page was “not in violation of Facebook’s rules.”
After facing intense backlash in both the Israeli and Jewish media, Facebook eventually shut down both pages.
Some 20,000 Israelis have joined a class-action lawsuit against Facebook, charging that the social media platform is ignoring posts that include Palestinian incitement and calls to murder Jews.
