Just a mile or so from Lebanon in Israeli territory awaits a breathtaking stretch of beach called Achziv, whose history dates back to the tribe of Asher in the Bible.

Throughout the ages, this strip of land, which includes a gorgeous beach sitting atop a windswept hill, has hosted invaders from Europe and the Arab world, with its most recent inhabitant an eccentric Israeli artist who sought to create a tiny sovereign nation.
