An Israeli debate team bested 30 countries to take home the trophy!

An Israeli youth debate team recently topped the EurOpen 2018 international schools debate competition in Stuttgart, Germany.
Israel 1 defeated team USA Blue on a 6-3 split as side opposition and ended up beating 30 other teams before taking home the trophy in 2018.
Team members Tamir West, Tomer Zucker, Omer Zilberbeg and Maya Carmon made history by becoming the first team from Israel to win this tournament.
The team’s coach Eliyahu Cochin called the victory “a great achievement for the young contestants who worked so hard for it.”
“The victory is for both the [competitors] themselves and the Israeli team behind them, without which all of this would not have happened,” he added.
This is by no means the first Israeli success at an international debate forum.
In August, two Israeli teams topped the European Universities Debating Championship in Serbia, in which a total of 187 teams from 30 countries within and surrounding Europe competed against each other.
In a world in which Israeli institutions face boycotts, the international debate arena retains great respect for the Israeli teams and judges.
