In the above verse, King David writes about being a “thriving olive tree in Hashem’s house.” Olive trees are one of the stronger species of tree with the ability to survive droughts, diseases and fires. Comparing oneself to an olive tree in the house of Hashem connotes feelings of safety, security and being in the presence of Hashem. We are entering the winter season in Israel. The olive tree, which can live for up to 2,000 years, does not shed its leaves in winter or summer, and is God’s eternal evergreen. God called the people of Israel His olive tree, his eternal people- “Hashem named you verdant olive tree, fair, with choice fruit” (Isaiah 11:16).
