2 killed 300 Injured Across Israel In Protests Against US President’s Announcement

The IDF reported that approximately 5,000 Palestinians took to the streets around Israel in a Day of Rage protest against President Donald Trump’s acknowledgment that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital on Friday, resulting in 2 deaths and over 300 were wounded in clashes with Israeli security forces. Protests on Saturday were much more subdued with only about 400 protesters reported in 20 locations.

The Palestinian Health Ministry announced that 23 were wounded by live fire and the rest were injured by rubber bullets and tear gas. 22 Palestinians from Gaza were injured while throwing rocks at IDF troops and rioting at the border fence.

Israel did not enact any restrictions on Muslim prayer on the Temple Mount and ten’s of thousands of Arabs filled Jerusalem’s Old City for Friday prayers on the Temple Mount. Dozens of Palestinians protested but were dispersed without violence.

Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haniyeh said during an interview to a Palestinian television channel Friday evening that, “Anyone thinking we will be satisfied with mere protests is dreaming.”

Anti-Trump protests were also held in Muslim majority and Arab countries. An estimated 20,000 Jordanians took to the streets in Amman on Friday. Protests were also held in Istanbul, Turkey and a protest in Baghdad in Iraq was attended by the Palestinian Ambassador.

Thousands of protesters gathered in front of the U.S. Embassy in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur where they burned American flags and an effigy of the president. This scene was also played out in front of the U.S. Embassy in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
