Dozens of Palestinian rioters threw rocks Monday at small group of settlers led by right-wing activist Baruch Marzel, one of the leaders of the Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Strength) party.

Palestinian reports claimed that one person had been critically wounded when the IDF opened fire some three kilometers from the village of Khusra. Security sources told Tazpit Press Service (TPS) that an injured Palestinian had been taken from the scene in a private car and that IDF medics had been unable to determine his situation.

Video taken by TPS at the scene shows several dozen Palestinian standing on a hilltop throwing rocks and rolling boulders down at a group of some 10 Jewish settlers hiking in the valley below.

The hike was organized by Otzma Yehudit in reaction to an event last Thursday in which a group of Jewish hikers was attacked by several dozen Palestinians near Khusra. An armed member of the group shot and killed a Palestinian in the incident. An initial IDF investigation found that he had acted in self defense.

Today’s hike took place without IDF permission, but troops secured the group. The IDF declared the area a closed military zone following the incident.

Otzman Yehudit issued a statement prior to the hike saying that it had notified the army of its plans to hike in the area, but would not ask for permission.

Otzma Yehudit activist Zvi Succot told TPS that as the group was walking in the direction of last week’s incident near Khusra, “some 100 Arabs waited for us and rolled boulders at us and attacked us with rocks.”
