Image צֶלֶם tselem

Genesis 1:27 (NASB)
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

The word tselem does not mean we “look” like God because God is Spirit, Tselem means “shadow’. Inside, we are a remnant or representation of Elohim. We function like Elohim on a small scale. He placed within us a shadow of Himself to act in the same manner.

Even though God is Spirit He still has many attributes. We were created with the same attributes on a small scale. God is divine or unlimited, we are not, one attribute is that we are male and female. We all have the X and Y chromosomes. We can create both with our bodies by reproduction and with our thoughts and words.
